Tualatin Hills Stuns Kelso, WA 10-9 In Regionals To Advance To Babe Ruth

KEIZER — Tualatin Hills Mound Time stunned Kelso, Washington 10-9 on a
walk-off single Saturday by Matt Orcutt to win the 14-year-old Pacific
Northwest Regional Babe Ruth tournament and advance to the World Series.
Orcutt came up to bat with one out in the bottom of the seventh and swung on
the first pitch he saw.

"At first I was a little nervous because I really wanted to win, but I took
a deep breath and the first pitch was right in there, so I took it," said
Orcutt of his game-winning blast that sailed over the center fielders head
to score Ryan Kaser and send his team to nationals.

In a game that saw few lead changes, Tualatin battled back to score six runs
in the final two innings to beat Kelso, the South Washington champs.
Both teams were undefeated in the tournament with a records of 5-0, but only
one team could win this game and represent the Northwest at the national
tournament.

"The kids were a little bit down," said Tualatin Hills coach Paul
Gilbertson, "but we battled back like we have been all season." Last year,
the same team made it to the regionals.

Tualatin Hills Mound Time advances to the World Series in Glen Allen, Va.,
beginning Aug. 20.

Semifinals set at Babe Ruth Regional - Kelso WA 4-0 Pool Play

KEIZER, OR — Kelso, WA and Mound Time Beaverton, OR are the top two seeds in the 14U Babe Ruth Regional Semifinals. Two local teams are still alive, with a trip to the Babe Ruth World Series two wins away, and they might face each other for that right. At 10 a.m., the Keizer Knights, the No. 2 seed in the American Division, will take on National Division top seed Kelso, Wash. The Salem Steelheads (National No. 2) face Mound Time from Beaverton (American No. 1) at 1 p.m. The winners will play in the 5 p.m. title game, with the champion moving on to the World Series Aug. 20-27 in Glen Allan, Va.

Kalispell (Mont.) 8, Salem 7
Down 8-2, the Steelheads posted five runs in the seventh, but the rally fell short against Kalispell.
Cody Hagopian doubled for Salem.

Kelso (Wash.) 6, Burlington (Wash.) 4
Kelso scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to complete a comeback from a two-run deficit against Burlington.
Kelso finished 4-0 in pool play.

Keizer 19, Casper (Wyo.) 4
Mickey Walker was 4 for 4 to lead a 15-hit attack as the Knights cruised against Casper in five innings.
Keizer blew the game open with 13 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Jacob Wood doubled for the Knights.
Walker's four hits capped an efficient two days at the plate. Including Walker's four hits Thursday, he is a combined 8 for 9 in the past two games.

Mound Time 14, Meridian (Idaho) 4
Mound Time turned a close game into a rout with eight sixth-inning runs in a win against Meridian.
Leading 6-3 in the top of the sixth, Mound Time scored eight times to put the game out of reach.
Mound Time was a perfect 4-0 in pool play.
